Product Aftercare.
Woodenware is easy to look after and can last many years if done so correctly. In most respects you should treat it the same as the rest of your dishes, with just a couple of exceptions which I have outlined below.
Do’s
Wash with warm soapy water along with your other dishes using a bristle brush when tougher cleaning is needed.
Leave to drain and dry fully before putting away.
Try to wash before food drys and hardens.
Dont’s
Leave soaking in water or with water in it for long periods of time. (10 minutes or so is okay to help with dried food). This could cause items to crack or break.
Use any harsh chemical cleaners or bleach. They may damage the wood and be partially absorbed and then leach back out into food later.
Use harsh abrasives such as metal scouring pads. Aside from disfiguring the wood they may leave scratches that harbour bacteria and make cleaning more difficult.
Put in the microwave. Bad things will happen.
Put in the dishwasher. Worse things will happen.
After much use your items may look a little dry and dull. When this happens you can give them a coating of either walnut oil or raw flax/linseed oil rubbed in with your fingers. Leave for 10 minutes then wipe off any excess with a paper towel and allow to dry. This will re-invigorate them and should be good for another 3-6 months.
